George Strait Reveals Why He Stopped Doing Interviews

George Strait is famous for avoiding interviews, but he recently agreed to speak to The New Yorker magazine and explained why he stopped talking to the press.

Strait lost his 13-year-old daughter Jennifer in a 1986 car crash. He says, "I just didn't feel like talking about it, so I quit...I did want to keep singing, absolutely. But I was at the point where I'm, 'Alright, if this is going to cost me my career, then so be it, but it's the only way I'm going to be able to cope with it.' It just kind of turned out the way it did. It wasn't an intentional thing."

As for affecting his career, Strait explains, "Everything just kept on going, it didn't make a bit of difference." You can listen to a 20 minute podcast of the interview at NewYorker.com.

Strait resumed his series of Two Nights of Number-Ones concerts in Las Vegas this past weekend. These are the shows where he plays all 60 of his number-one hits over two shows. The next ones will take place September 1st and 2nd.
