Herd of Horses Takes Over Highway Near Atlanta

Traffic jams are never fun, especially when they're caused by someone who is just horsin' around.

Drivers on an Atlanta-area highway were shocked to see a herd of ten horses trotting down the eastbound lanes of Highway 78 on Saturday. The horses were seen trotting along the middle of the roadway in video captured by commuters driving the busy road near the North DeKalb Mall in Georgia.

DeKalb police were called to the scene where they shut down the busy road for a few hours while representatives from Little Creek Horse Farm (where the equines normally hang out), worked to recapture the animals.

The geldings managed to make it as far as Brockett Road before they were recaptured by a team of farm workers, owners, trainers, and students.

"Yes our horses did decide to take a trip up 78 this morning," the farm wrote on its Facebook page. "Thanks for everyone’s patience who sat on the freeway while we corralled them. A HUGE shout out to the Dekalb police who responded quickly and efficiently, keeping people and horses safe. Steps will immediately be taken to assure this doesn’t happen again.

The farm wrote that the team of ten getaways were a bit "stiff and sore" from their expedition, but none seemed to be worse after their ordeal.

The farm said the horses managed to escape after a gate was accidentally left open overnight.
