As Ashley Monroe undergoes treatment for a rare blood cancer, the singer-songwriter is releasing a new project.

The Covers is set to release Wednesday (September 8). The five-track EP, a project with Tyler Cain, includes Monroe’s take on “Don’t Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys, “Love Hurts” by Boudleaux Bryant, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams, and “More Than Words” by Extreme. Monroe includes Ruston Kelly on “Love Hurts” and duets with Brittney Spencer on “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You.”

“I am so happy we are releasing these covers today I recorded with @thisistylercain (with some help from @rustonkelly and @brittneyspencer),” Monroe gushed on Instagram. “These songs all live in a deep part of my heart and still feel fresh to me after years and years of singing them. I hope they touch your heart the way they touch mine.”

Spencer replied: “love you :) so happy this project is out, and that we sang one together 💛💛💛”

Monroe revealed earlier this summer that she was diagnosed with the rare cancer Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia. She started chemotherapy on July 14. She credited “amazing” doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and asked for prayers: “I DO believe in the power of prayer… I also believe in the power of love healing us all on an even deeper level.”

When asked for an update by Rolling Stone, Monroe gave an update. She said, in part:

“I’ve gotten through two cycles now of chemo. Each cycle is back to back, once a month. It’s hard, I’ll be honest. It doesn’t feel good the day of and the week after, but I feel like I’ve bounced back a little quicker this time than my first time. I’ve got a lot of support. I definitely feel people praying.”
