LeAnn Rimes debuted “wild things run” on Tuesday morning (February 24), a “cinematic” ballad written for her character in 9-1-1: Nashville.

The Grammy-winning country artist plays Dixie Bennings on the action-drama that premiered in October 2025. Rimes said during an appearance on Good Morning America, “Dixie’s great. I love her. She is — I think she’s got the biggest heart underneath it all. You know, she feels like she’s been slighted in life by the music industry and Nashville. And she’s a single mom, and I think really all of her manipulation that you see kind of comes out of survival for her. And so, I think underneath that all, she really has a good heart. So, depending on the episode that you see, you love her or you hate her. It just depends. and you switch back and forth, which is what I love. I love when people hate me on the show. It’s the best.

“In this latest episode, I actually wrote a song called ‘wild things run’ with my dear friend Darrell Brown,” she continued. “We wrote it for Dixie, and it’s kind of her song that she gets discovered by in the flashback, so — and then I did my own version! It just came out today.”

Rimes, who also reminisced on her iconic Coyote Ugly days after sharing a “super viral” video with her 9-1-1: Nashville cast mates, hinted that “wild things run” could blaze the trail for her next studio album. Rimes’ lates record is god’s work, a 12-track studio album that arrived in September 2022. She extended it into a 17-track edition, god’s work (resurrected) in November 2023. Since then, the “How Do I Live” icon has also released a Greatest Hits Christmas album to celebrate the holiday season. Rimes said on GMA on Tuesday morning that “wild things run” could be the first step to her next project.

“I’m one of those people that I like to live life after every record just to have something to write about, and it’s not, you know, it’s not performative in a lot of ways,” she said. “So, this, actually, though, kind of opened the door for me because I’ve been wondering, I’m like, ‘where am I going next?’ And there’s just — I love the cinematic vibe of the song, and it feels like a new direction, or a direction for a new record. So, I’m starting.
I haven’t had much time to sit down and write, so now that I have a little time on my hands, I’m doing some writing.”

Rimes stars in 9-1-1: Nashville with Chris O’Donnell, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Jessica Capshaw, Hailey Kilgore, Michael Provost, Hunter McVey and Juani Feliz. ABC described the newest 9-1-1 installment as “a high-octane procedural about heroic first responders, as well as their family saga of power and glamour set in one of America’s most diverse and dynamic cities.” 9-1-1: Nashville airs on Thursday evenings on ABC, and is available to stream the following day on Hulu. The next episode will premiere on Thursday (February 26). Listen to “wild things run” here, and watch Rimes' interview on Good Morning America below.
