You may think it’s best to be totally honest in a job interview, but one career expert’s saying that’s not the case. Career and leadership expert Isobelle Panton took to TikTok to share that if you want to nail a job interview, there are four lies you should be telling. What are they?
- Your reason for leaving your last role: If it’s for a negative reason, Panton says not to share it. She says to “keep it positive, keep it professional, keep it progressive.”
- How many offers or interview processes you’re in: You don’t want them to think this is the only interview you’re having. Panton says that it “gives an air of desperation.” Instead, she says by making them think you have more offers and interviews, “you’ll be perceived as top talent.”
- Major travel plans: Panton says that by sharing your travel plans from the get-go gives off the feeling that you’re “only getting this job to pay for” that travel. She says to straight up just not let them know of any that you have.
- Plans to set up your own business: Yes, most people have side hustles nowadays, but that’s not something you should talk about during your interview. Panton says that it can show “that your motivation to work for [this job] is slim to none.”
