It's been several years.. but do you remember when Garth Brooks sang the national anthem at Super Bowl 27?! It was 1993. The Buffalo Bills were taking on the Dallas Cowboys. Garth was hoping to debut the music video of his song "We Shall Be Free" in response to the L.A. riots at the time. The network said the video was too controversial and Garth reportedly walked out of the stadium with less than an hour until kickoff. Garth ended up winning. The Super Bowl was delayed for the first time ever and the video was shown during the broadcast. Garth ended up performing the anthem! Here's the only video I could find of the day:
