Blake Shelton couldn’t join Thomas Rhett in person to film the lyric video for the duo’s newly-released collaboration. So Rhett had to “get creative.”
Rhett premiered the “Old Tricks” lyric video on Friday (July 25). It opens with a FaceTime call between the two country artists. Rhett said, “man, I’m in Nashville and I was just listening to the final mix of our song, and we gotta film content for it, so I was just wondering when you had availability to shoot some stuff?”
“I’m pretty busy. I’m pretty busy, TR. That’s the truth,” Shelton replied. “I just don’t know if I’ll have time to shoot content.”
Rhett assured Shelton that he’ll “figure it out.” Text that appeared on the screen explained, “four candidates were given 20 minutes to learn the lyrics to the song ‘Old Tricks.’ They were not informed that Thomas Rhett would be judging their performance. Here’s how it went down…”
Rhett sported one of Shelton’s merch t-shirts when he filmed his part of the video. Soon, the Shelton “lookalikes” stepped up to the mic.
Rhett teased the “Old Tricks” video on Thursday (July 24), when he shared a sneak peek of the audition process at Shelton’s bar, Ole Red, in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Rhett explained at that time that Shelton “couldn’t make it for any of the filming we were gonna do today, so we had to find the next best option. We decided to find four Blake lookalikes. And some of them don’t look like Blake at all. But some of them act like Blake. We have four strong candidates just to fill Blake’s spot for this, you know, little piece of content here.”
